Technologies like NFC are basically useful but also dangerous in the wrong hands. There are also familiar problems with magnetic strips or deformations that can destroy a bank card. You are standing in front of the ATM and want to withdraw some money. However, the machine tells you: "Card not recognised". The same thing could happen in front of a long queue at the supermarket or when you come to pay in a restaurant. You may also be unable to enter the foyer of your bank when the magnetic stripe on your card refuses to work.
When an EC card, debit or bank card suddenly stops working - whether at the ATM, check-out or the card terminal at the petrol pump - the source of the problem is probably the magnetic stripe on the back of the card. Because this is where important information is stored, a defective magnetic stripe can often mean that the card no longer works at all, which has serious and very awkward consequences for the card holder. When a card is kept in a conventional card cover, the magnetic stripe can be destroyed when it comes close to a magnetic field. The card will no longer be usable.
